June Ice Cream Parties

June Parties: I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream

IMG_3771

Our I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream parties were a sweet start to summer. June was an exciting month as we hosted our first parties with seven new agencies! We loved meeting new kids, and dumping glitter on areas of Pittsburgh we had not partied in yet!

June also saw a magical celebration for a very special little boy. We received an email from a caring teacher who hoped we could help provide birthday experience for her student who had been experiencing homelessness for most of the school year. Big thanks to Dan’s Variety Entertainment for putting on a great show including a grand finale where the birthday boy’s card showed up inside a cupcake!

Huge shoutout to our cupcake bakers this month who ran with the theme and baked these amazing treats!

This week, we are delighted to introduce you to the incredible woman behind the scenes of Beverly’s Birthdays who keeps our office running smoothly:

Ben.5Name: Tracy Mongelluzzo

Title: Office Manager

Office Spirit Animal: Owl

A Shippensburg University graduate, Tracy has been with Beverly’s Birthdays since January 2016. When she’s not keeping all of us in line, you can usually find her at the baseball field cheering on her son. With her quiet demeanor, and her enjoyment of reading and crafting, you may be shocked to discover she advanced to the competitive roller skating National Championship when she was younger! If escaping Pittsburgh, Tracy’s favorite vacation spot is the beach.

Birthday Party Activities

Ice Cream Suncatchers

A fun craft that enabled the kids to paint in a low-mess way!

Supplies:

Every child got to pick which ice cream suncatcher that they wanted to design. We quickly discovered placing the suncatchers on the plate before they began to paint allowed them to write their name on the plate. This enabled easier transport of the craft home, as the suncatchers weren’t dry by the time the party was over.

Play Dough

A crowd favorite for our kiddos of all ages!

Supplies:

Every child got to pick their favorite color of play dough as well as yellow play dough. We encouraged sharing so that everyone got numerous colors. We utilized a variety of different play dough mats to work on their counting, creativity and fine motor skills as well as different ice cream tools and prompts to keep the kids engaged and inspire creative thinking. We placed the mats in plastic sheet covers which kept the mess minimal and allowed us to save paper and reuse

Special Parties

In June we got to throw a couple of extra special parties. At our June Sto-Rox family center party, the KONA ice truck came to cool us off and provide an extra special birthday treat. My Favorite Sweet Shoppe came to our Sojourner House Mom’s party to make chocolate dipped pretzels with the kiddos. A HUGE thanks to both of these organizations for helping our kids make unforgettable birthday memories.

Huge special shoutout to all who participated in the Rocker Classic Golf Outing In Memory of Jeff Reed! We had a blast with you all and are so incredibly grateful for all you were able to raise!

As summer heats up, check back next month to hear how our Moana/ Luau parties went. We hope you have a great rest of your July, and remember #smiles matter!

Birthday cheer,
